Task Force Groups Frequently Asked Questions
In response to recent events and in light of conversations within the SDSU campus community regarding student events and also alcohol and other druge use, SDSU President Adela de la Torre launched two Presidential Task Force groups. The issue of alcohol and other druge use and also student safety and well-being is part of a larger issue facing college and university campuses nationwide.
Members of each task force group will begin meeting in the Fall 2019. The Presidential Task Force on Student Activities and Safety is charged with reviewing behaviors, education, policies, processes, and procedures of organizations and their members at San Diego State University. The Presidential Task Force on Alcohol and Substance Misuse, is charged with reviewing behaviors, trends, prevention, policies and responses related to alcohol and other drug use at San Diego State University.
SDSU has decided that, once recognized by the university, the IFC and IFC-member organizations may host events that are academic support, leadership, brotherhood, philanthropy, and community service in purpose and nature during the Spring 2020 term.
All events hosted by the IFC and IFC-member organizations must be alcohol and substance-free during the Spring 2020 term. Additionally, the IFC and IFC-member organizations may not host or co-host events that are social in nature during the Spring 2020 term.
These parameters do not apply for Recognized Student Organizations, including fraternities and sororities not part of the IFC.
Members of the Presidential Task Force groups many establish new or different parameters impacting the IFC and IFC-member organizations and will communicate and coordinate with the organizations as early as this spring semester.
Based on their evaluation and assessment, members of both task force groups will develop two independent reports of findings and recommendations. Those reports will be shared with SDSU President Adela de la Torre to be reviewed and operationalized.
SDSU maintains two resources: the Student Organization Handbook and the Student Organization Code of Conduct. Together, these resources provide information and guidelines about the university's core community values and expectations for those involved in any student organization; event planning; risk mitigation; grounds for discipline; information about the disciplinary process; and also information related to reporting discrimination, assault, hazing and other conduct issues.
If ever you or someone you know is in danger, we ask that you call 911.
For other reporting, SDSU offers a number of avenues depending on the type of complaint.
Sexual misconduct may be reported via the Sexual Misconduct Response and Prevention site or the Student Organization Incident Report Form.
