“I didn’t think that Georgian educational system, higher education, would allow me to succeed as a professional and accomplish my goals and aspirations if I enrolled in some of the Georgian universities. However, as soon as I heard about SDSU’s program coming here in Georgia, I decided to join in. And I decided to continue following my passion to science at this university, joining the first cohort of students who are graduating today” -Tamar.

 

About Dr. Adela de la Torre

Dr. Adela de la Torre joined San Diego State University in June 2018, as the first woman and Latina president. She brings 30 years of service and leadership roles within institutions of higher education and shares these experiences with open arms. She has two daughters who are both married, a grandson, a husband, and three dogs! Adela discusses the challenges she faced in college, her mentors, her heart-led leadership style, and her vision to help all types of students at SDSU feel confident in their goals.

About Dean Halil Guven

Dr. Güven is appointed as the Dean of SDSU-Georgia on February 1, 2018. Prior to this Dr. Güven served as the Interim Dean and the Vice Dean of SDSU-Georgia (2014-2018). Dr. Güven joined SDSU in 1984 and served as a faculty member in the SDSU Department of Mechanical Engineering till 1999. Between 1999 and 2011, Dr. Güven served as rector (also founding rector) of three universities overseas (Turkey and Cyprus). Short Bio
